« Following the merger in 2018, our community of communes has equipped itself with new servers at its three main sites. It was therefore essential to protect the data stored on these new machines.
So we turned to the Beemo2Beemo solution, proposed, implemented and supervised by our partner Conty. This solution involves 3 backup servers at 3 different sites, enabling local backups and replication of relocated data.
In 2022 we recruited Mr Foussard as Head of Information Systems. It wanted to develop and implement new cyber security measures. With his past experience of dealing with a ransomware attack, he had experienced the difficult reality of having to restore data whose backups were not sufficiently effective, resulting in data loss and a complicated recovery process.
To test and strengthen our preparedness against possible ransomware attacks, we asked Conty to define a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) based on a simulation of cyber attacks. An attack scenario has been created, detailing the reaction measures to be implemented and the drafting of a sequence of actions. The exercise was a success, with the data from the servers and virtual machines restored to a clean site, and full activity resumed in less than 30 hours.
For our sector of activity, the investment/reactivity ratio is entirely satisfactory. This exercise not only validated our preparations, but also enabled us to create an operational document that will be extremely useful in the event of a real attack.
We strongly encourage our colleagues in charge of IT within local authorities to adopt such solutions, both technically and organisationally. A reliable backup solution, supervised by a competent local partner, is the guarantee of an effective return to activity. »
